Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oneida Polished Black Mandolin Interchangable Slicer

Customer Review: Spend a bit more and get something decent
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this mandolin because it was middle of the road as far as price goes (not $75 and not $10). It's fairly sturdy (the only reason for the 2 stars), and the guard slides well. However, the blades are not nearly sharp enough. First try was an onion, and it would not even make decent slices at 1/4 inch. It mangled the layers of the onions and did not cut all the way through even once before ripping that layer off. Did not matter which way I placed the onion on the guard. Forget harder veggies like carrots or celery. Every slice was broken off at the back edge rather than cleanly cut through.

I recommend going with something a little higher quality even if it costs a bit more. I bought this at Target and it will be going back tomorrow.

Customer Review: Not Good
Summary: 1 Stars

I am currently looking for a new slicer after waisting my money on this one. My advice is that you spend a couple of more dollars and get yourself a better quality one. If you still want this one you can have mines for free out of my wasted money drawer!

Customer Review: Dangerous!
Summary: 1 Stars

The Oneida slicer I received had a serious design or manufacturing problem. When the rear support was swung into place it put the slicer at an angle that prevented the front rubber feet from contacting the counter top. This allowed the slicer to slip and slide and made it very dangerous to use. I returned this item and bought the Swissmar Borner V-Slicer Plus, which works great.

Customer Review: mandolin
Summary: 3 Stars

the mandolin is a handy tool, however it was not as easy to use as it looked, It took several tries to get a decent slice and the end of each slice tend to break off rather than slice off.

Customer Review: Solid mandolin slicer.
Summary: 5 Stars

The several negative reviews made me wonder if I had made a mistake in buying this Oneida mandolin slicer. On the contrary, I find that it is a fine tool, very sharp, cuts and shreds well, is VERY sold when being used and feels safe and secure. The adjustments are good and do get you to a fine "tune" without much work. Looks good too and stores easy. Cuts very thin and also far thicker than several other mandolins I looked at. I like it. I like it fine. My only criticism is that the so-called manual is really nothing more than an illustration with some cursory remarks; it does not come close to providing an adequate guide for some potential uses (several other mandolins actually have YOU TUBE videos, and I probably will consult them and see if they can help with refinements).
